British Eventing jumps for joy following success in the European Eventing Championships

15/08/2006

The British Eventing Young Rider Team - sponsored by Jump, the savings scheme for children based on Witan, the global growth investment trust – has once again produced top-trot performances to win Team and Individual gold at the European Eventing Championships held 3-6 August in the Czech Republic.

Sponsored by Jump since March 2006, the British Young Rider squad has proved to be one of Britain’s most successful equestrian teams, winning the Championship title on 13 occasions in 25 years of competition. This year, despite demanding weather conditions, saw the Jump Savings Young Rider Team move up the leaderboard through the competition. Lying in Silver after the Dressage phase, four fantastic cross country rounds promoted the Jump four into gold and the nerves held in the final show jumping to secure gold. Amy Young on Highville won the Individual European Gold Medal.

James Budden, Marketing Director of Jump, the savings scheme for children, said: “British Eventing continues to produce top-class riders who have once again proved themselves at the highest level. Jump, which is dedicated to investing and growing for the future, much like the British Eventing Jump Savings Young Rider Team, is proud to be associated with a team that continues to enjoy such galloping success at international competitions.”

Jump, the savings plan for children, offers a cost-effective and flexible means of supporting a child’s future finances. Minimum investments start at £25 per month or £100 lump sum. Jump is based on the £1.5bn Witan Investment Trust, which offers access to global stockmarkets. There is no initial or annual fee, (just the mandatory 0.5% Government stamp duty) and a 1% share dealing charge.

Notes to Editors

The Jump British Young Rider programme aims to produce medal winning squads for the European Young Rider Eventing Championship each year, seeking out talented riders for the future by encouraging more riders to compete at the top level thus widening the choice of candidates for the Senior Selectors. Riders aged between 18 and 21 are selected from Young Rider Trials at Under 21 Intermediate classes and Under 25 Advanced classes held around the country each spring and the Under 25 Championship at Bramham.  The six selected combinations are then given training as a squad prior to the championship in August (Pardubice, Czech Republic August 3 – 6 2006).  Sponsorship helps with vital training, equipment and transportation costs for both horse and rider.

Team suppliers for 2006 include: Toggi (clothing), KC Equestrian (protective clothing), Volkswagen (official vehicle), Gatehouse Range (hat silks), NEW Equine Wear (equine leg protection) and the Horse Trials Support Group (funding).
